Program
for Home Schooled Students:
An increasing number of
families are considering alternatives to traditional
classroom-based instruction for meeting the learning
needs of their students. The Riverside Virtual
School supports parental choice, while providing
access to a rigorous, standards-based, college
preparatory curriculum in grades 6 - 12. The unique
blended learning environment experienced by RVS students
also provides access to experiential school activities
such as fine and performing arts programs, school-based
athletics, links to institutions of higher learning, and
community mentor programs. |

The Role
of the Parent: A
critical aspect of home schooling is the active
role parents play in the learning process. As
students advance in a college preparatory curriculum,
some parents may grow
concerned about their ability to provide instruction in
certain content areas. Our highly qualified teachers are
experts in their field, holding both California teaching
credentials and advanced degrees in their content areas.
Both curricular and technical support is provided to
parents in order to best support their student as they
navigate through their individualized course of study.
Face-to-face support is provided to all students, the
frequency of which is determined by the specific
curriculum and the individual needs of the child. |

Deciding
if online learning is right for you:
Virtual learning
environments encompass new and exciting learning
strategies and experiences that are designed to match
the learning style of the digital learner. Success
with an online learning program requires
self-determination, self-discipline, and personal motivation, as well as
an ability to balance your time. Some students find the
online curriculum and instructional methods to be more
challenging than that which they have faced in the
traditional school setting. Students and parents
should take the time to investigate the school, the
curriculum, and - most of all - their own learning styles
before enrolling in any online course. These
resources
can assist you in determining if the virtual learning
environment will match your personal learning style. |
